Stainless steel is wonderfully easy to clean. Nothing sticks to it... except maybe fingerprints. Scratches show up clearly as well. But you can put hot pans on it and not worry about scorching, which is perfect for the serious cook.
Stainless steel isn't cheap, but it's far from the most expensive material you could choose for your kitchen countertops.
Over time, stainless steel will develop a dull patina, which will decrease the appearance of fingerprints and scuffs.
