You may be more familiar with slate as a roofing material or seen it used decoratively outside the house. But slate can also make an attractive and durable countertop material.

Slate comes in a variety of lovely colors and is extremely durable. However, it does require regular sealing. It's fireproof too, which is hopefully a feature that won't matter to you!
