Marble Countertops

Marble is cool to the touch and beautiful, making it in some ways an attractive choice. However, it is not as easy to care for as other natural stone countertops. This is because marble is very porous, requiring sealing more often than the more popular granite countertops.

Marble is also less durable. This makes marble more appealing if you tend to use your kitchen more gently. If you tend to bang around your kitchen, this is not the stone for you!

Frequent sealing, however, can help you to keep the stains at bay. If you think you can keep up with this bit of maintenance, marble countertops may not be too bad a choice for you.

If you are considering marble because you love to cook things that would benefit from the cool, smooth surface of marble, such as making candy or pastries, you may want to consider having a marble section in your kitchen rather than doing the entire kitchen with marble countertops. This will allow you to have the advantages without having the disadvantages throughout your entire kitchen.

Marble tends to cost somewhat less than granite, but it is still fairly pricey. This is another good material to choose locally, as there is tremendous variation from slab to slab.
