Countertops

The countertops in your kitchen are very important. You need enough space on them and they generally need to take some abuse. You want them to be easy to clean and attractive.

But the best countertop for you will depend on your budget and how you tend to use your kitchen. Are you a serious cook? Cook only when you can't avoid it? Most likely, you're somewhere in between.

Some features are likely to be important to all users. You probably would like to be able to put a hot pan on the counter and not worry about having a dark spot that won't scrub off as a result. You want it to be easy to wash. You want easy care overall.

Granite countertops are hugely popular right now. They look great, wear well and come in a beautiful array of colors.

While your cabinets will probably make the most impact in your new kitchen, and should be chosen first, it is the countertops that get the most direct use. You prepare food on them, place small appliances on them, they hold your hand-washed dishes as they dry. You may even use your kitchen countertops as a place to write quick notes, eat breakfast or any of a dozen other uses. They are a major part of what makes your kitchen comfortable.
